GNOSALL &NEWPORT LIONS CLUB

Gnosall &Newport Lions hope that everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. We certainly did and closed the year with a bang in what has been the busiest month in our existence, either in our new form or our old one. We commenced by laying 3 wreathes  on Remembrance Day,2 in Newport &1 in the village. This time of year was mirrored by our Afternoon Tea Dance ,which had our highest number of dancers to date in attendance.  This was followed by our Annual Last Night at the Proms, numbers were slightly down on last year, due in the main to it being held later in the year than previously which meant clashes with other activities going on locally.

We then had two Tombola Stalls at the Victorian Market, one our ever popular Teddies Tombola for the Children and an adult one which we moved from the Christmas Light Switch on. Whilst this was going on we were as a Club Fund Raising outside Waitrose in Newport for 4 days from dawn until dusk, quite an undertaking. Following this we held a Senior Citizens Tea Party at Burton Borough School with cakes and drinks, sandwiches and squash whilst being entertained by the Newport Ukelele Gang and by Burton Borough Big Band. The Burton Borough School  Band are something else, most of us had never heard of them before, and after hearing them you can see why they have won so many awards nationwide in the past, absolutely mind blowing. However we had not finished as we finished off the month of December with Santa’s Sleigh around the village. Unfortunately we had to cancel the final on in the Elton way area due to the weather making it very dangerous, for this we apologise but safety was paramount, not only for us,but also for the children. For the same reason we also cancelled our Christmas Afternoon Tea Dance although we have decided to run it with a Christmas Theme on January 9th and would like people attending to wear Christmas attire and bring along wrapped prizes.

We also however found time to enjoy ourselves socially, holding a hilarious Whist Drive amongst ourselves organised by one of our Lions,John Fullwood &his wife, had a Christmas Meal out at the White House in Telford and have also been to the Christmas Panto for adults in Stafford. Please note it is not all work,we also play,so if you are interested in joining us then why not come along to our February meeting at the Gnosall Fire Station on Mon 5th  Feb at 7-30 pm or call either Pat on 01785 780032 or John on 01952 273919 . We would love to meet you.
