Gnosall First Responders

We gave over 250 hours cover and responded to 25 calls in and around the village in April.

It truly was a marvellous May morning for the 3rd Annual May Sportive in aid of First Responders and in association with The Horns.

The High Street was a ribbon of colour as 108 cyclists set off on their chosen routes, either 26 or 60 miles through the lovely Staffordshire and touching into Shropshire countryside. The routes, meticulously organised and managed by First Responder Steve Cartlidge proved to be winners with everyone taking part, including having a choice of distance and great scenery!

26 mile route:1st back –Chris Hodgkinson in 1 hour 20 minutes

2nd back –Rob Negus

3rd back –Lynn Geoghegan

60 mile route:1st back –Adam Bates in 3 hours 13 minutes

2nd back –Jack Beckett and Peter Evans

3rd back –Tom Dellicompagni and John Weaver

Well done to absolutely everyone who took part:

• To the gallant cyclist who hit a pothole and fell face first into a bramble hedge;got up,repaired the bike and carried on to complete the route albeit with a few “war wounds”!

• To the cyclist who went the “scenic” route and added a couple of miles to the route!

• To the youngest cyclist Paddy aged 9 who completed 26 miles!

• To the cyclist who thought The Wrekin was moving – didn’t they know the “Giant” who moves it around must have been about!

Thank you to Neil,Michelle, their lovely Staff at The Horns for working in partnership with First Responders and for being terrific Hosts. Thank you also to their three children,Rebecca,Fynlee and Rhylee who were a great help handing out leaflets.

Thank you to The Bakery for sponsoring and supplying the energy biscuits.

Thank you to Martin and Sharon for supplying the brilliant Sound system.

Thank you to our many supporters for the Sportive without these lovely people,we would not have been able to run the event:

• To all the marshalls, food and drink stewards and people living en route who allowed us to set up the food and drink stops and generally cycle past their houses en masse.

• To everyone helping back at base who “signed them all out and signed them all back!” The good news is that we did not lose anyone at all!!!!

Any monies donated to us can also be gift aided if you are a UK tax payer, which means we get a further rebate.

We are now also registered with Just Giving too…. just search for Gnosall and District Community First Responders.
