March means to me what I feel is possibly the most rewarding part of being Lions, the annual Waterworld Event in Stoke on Trent as part of our of Zone team hosting in excess of 700 special needs children to an amazing day out at the Waterworld. Swimming Pool Complex. There the children together with their Teachers and Care workers were treated to sole use of the pool and at the finish every child given a goody bag and their teachers and helpers an Easter Egg to take home. The look on the children’s faces said it all,as to many it was the highlight of their year as well. Not only did they all get wet,but they were also greeted by the Lion Marcot,Mickey &Minnie Mouse Pottymus, the mascot of Stoke City and Boomer from Port Vale FC. A wonderful and rewarding day,.

Recently you may have seen a number of Easter Eggs placed in some of the local establishments,so if you supported us then thanks as it all the money raised goes to swell our coffers to use in or for local good causes.

Tea Dances continue to flourish going from strength to strength at the modest price of £4-00. On 31st May it is time for our Annual Golf Day at Aqualate Golf Club with monies raised going towards PSA Testing (Prostate Cancer) and other Lion causes. The cost is a modest £19-00 per golfer to include Coffee and Bacon Baps at the 10th Tee,with 9 trophies up for grabs. To those who have not been before ,or have not visited the course for a while, they will be amazed at the transformation over the last couple of years, with the addition of a Lounge,Bar and Golf Equipment shop together with wholesale improvements all around the course. Danny and his team have worked wonders and we are so grateful to them for hosting us yet again.

So,if you are a golfer, male or female, young or old, brilliant or if not then like me,then there is something for everyone, ladies and gents trophies, and a number of fun trophies as well,so please come along and support us in order to raise money for this important thing,to identify by means of a simple test if someone is at risk of Prostate Cancer. It costs us as a Club £15-00 approx per person to test,we tested in excess of 325 last year at no cost to those who come along to be tested, with us doing the same later on in the year yet again.

As you can see we have been extremely active, with an increasing membership. However we could do with more people coming along and joining us and we could then do even more locally. We also have a varied social calendar with a meal in Woodseaves,a ladies Tea and Cake Afternoon, while the gents are checking out the New Inn in Newport,Shakespeare at the Castle,a visit to the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen, the possibility of a canal boat trip all planned for the coming months,so why not come along to one of our upcoming meetings at the Fire Station on Monday 2nd April or 7th May commencing at 7-30 pm or call Pat Hunt on 01785 780032 ,You’ll be made welcome and will be helping us to help Gnosall,Newport and surrounding villages.
